Paid, Evicted, Stripped Bare

Brian has rented his apartment for three years and never missed a payment. When his landlord, Mr. Finch, demands the $800 annual heating fee, Brian pays it at once. The next day, Mr. Finch texts him: his son needs the place for a wedding, and Brian must be out within seven days. The lease still has six months left, but Mr. Finch refuses to honor it, keeps the heating money, and tells Brian to sue if he likes, certain he cannot afford the time or the lawyer.

Brian does not argue. He quietly packs, screenshots every message and payment, and records a call confirming Mr. Finch's demands. He also finds a new, furnished place to live, and searches for a professional disassembly service. A clause in his lease allows a tenant to remove any permanent fixtures he installed.

On moving day, Mr. Finch arrives smiling with a bag of fruit. The moment he pushes the door open, he freezes: the apartment is a hollow shell, as bare as if no one had ever lived there.
