My Ex Was My Best Investment

Standing on a foggy street corner for the third time, a woman realizes the marriage contract she once treated as sacred was worthless. Ewan had told her a title is just a piece of paper, and twice she walked away with nothing. Now, nearly thirty, she meets him again by the Pacific, where he still wears the fragrance she blended for him years ago. He never cared why she left; he only wanted to witness her surrender.

She returns to him without a ring or a title. When his friends wager on how long she will last, she tosses his black card onto the pile and bets two weeks. Ewan lasts six months as a saint before bringing home a young intern named Penny, asking her to find the girl a place. She places Penny directly under him, then promises she will not make things difficult.

Watching her own reflection, she smiles perfectly. She has learned his script, and she is no longer the woman who would shatter the soup tureen over his head.
