Story
The story
Julian Vance demands absolute order and punctuality. When he married Serena, he set one rule: any argument lasting more than ten minutes ends, and he walks away. On their wedding anniversary, her morning sickness makes her three minutes late to the boarding gate, and Julian has the cabin doors closed without her. In First Class, Chloe Sterling is sitting in her seat — the fourth time he has given Serena's place to Chloe.
Stranded in the terminal, Serena doubles over in pain and calls Julian. He is busy comforting Chloe, who is airsick, and tells her to call an ambulance herself. At the hospital she learns she is at risk of a miscarriage, yet Julian accuses her of using the baby to threaten him and hangs up. His assistant then arrives with Chloe's shawl for Serena to wash, and a prenatal record slips from the suitcase: Chloe Sterling, eight weeks pregnant, dated the same day as Serena's first appointment.
When Julian finally visits, he brings Chloe's favorite seafood porridge — the one thing Serena is deathly allergic to. Bed rest is all she has left to hold on to.
