Story
The story
Elena has spent years trapped in the crossfire between her husband Zavier and Bridget, a woman from his past who sabotages her life with fire, a car crash and finally a knife. The attack leaves Elena in the ICU, her unborn child gone and her ability to have children taken from her.
Recovering in hospital, Elena overhears Zavier tell his friend Silas that he allowed the hysterectomy because Bridget is relentless, and that Elena is merely the board he and Bridget play on. When Zavier refuses to send Bridget to prison, calling it a game, Elena asks for a divorce. He leaves her for Bridget without a word.
Elena returns to their penthouse to find the two of them together, and takes a knife in hand.
Opening excerpt
Bridget didn’t just play games; she played for blood. Years ago, she set fire to our tent during a camping trip just to sabotage a weekend alone with Zavier. I still carry the jagged, silver scars of those burns on my shoulder. Later, on the day of our seaside wedding, she drove her car straight into the reception. The impact tore my knee ligaments to shreds, leaving me with a permanent limp and a cane I hated.
For years, I lived in the crossfire of their twisted dynamic.
