Story

The story

At her school sports day, Michelle wins first place, only to be pushed from the podium by a boy named Cody, breaking her leg. When her father demands an apology, Cody's father, Chad, slaps him and boasts that his wife, Vivian Vance, is CEO of Valerius Corp. Chad and Cody threaten to have Michelle expelled and the family thrown out of Newport City.

Adrian Vance, Michelle's father, reveals that Vivian is his legally wedded wife and Michelle's mother, but Chad dismisses the claim as a pathetic lie. When the principal, Thompson, arrives, he blames Michelle and accuses her of cheating, siding with Chad because of Valerius Corp's donations.

Adrian points to a security camera and demands the footage be pulled, but the principal orders him seized instead. With his daughter beaten and the truth buried, Adrian must decide how far he will go to protect his family.

Opening excerpt

My daughter, Michelle, won first place at her school’s sports day. A moment later, she was pushed from the winner’s podium, and I heard the sickening crack of bone.

Her leg was broken.

I demanded an apology from the boy who did it. His father slapped me across the face.

"What the hell? It’s an honor for your kid to be pushed by my Cody! Let me tell you something, my wife is the CEO of Valerius Corp. How about that? Scared now, huh?"
