Scars and Sweet Revenge, The Billionaire's Regret

Five years after breaking up with Julian Sterling, Elena meets him again at his engagement party to his adopted sister, Chloe. Julian is the golden boy of the night; Elena is merely the hired pastry chef. When he approaches her dessert station, she greets him with professional composure, serving a slice of Black Forest cake and keeping her badly scarred right hand hidden behind her back.

Chloe clings to Julian and reaches for Elena with an innocent expression, but Elena recoils. Julian shields Chloe, calling what happened back then an accident. Elena reminds him that he knocked over boiling sugar syrup for Chloe's sake, shattering her chance at the World Pastry Cup, and that he once told her he never loved her. She leaves through the staff exit.

Back in her tiny studio apartment, Elena holds her scarred hand under the freezing tap. Memories return of a childhood spent as Julian's sweetheart, of Chloe's arrival in the Sterling household, and of the night her grandfather lay dying while she waited at the station for Julian, receiving only a cold text.
