My Fiancé Left Me Alone When His First Love Slit Her Wrists

On the day of her engagement party, Audrey's fiancé George abandons her at the venue because his ex, Ann, has slit her wrists. He insists a life is at stake and that Audrey must be reasonable. She is. Rather than let the guests and the ballroom go to waste, she decides the groom can be replaced.

With minutes until the ceremony, Audrey calls Gideon Pierce, her father's old chess rival and close friend, whom she has always addressed as Uncle Gideon. She asks him to get engaged to her instead. He accepts, sends his assistant Tommy for a proper suit, and takes George's place at the altar. George's family has already slipped away.

When the microphones go off, her father demands to know what is happening, while her mother whispers that he can no longer call Gideon his friend.
