His Wife's Place Was Never Mine

For three years, Mavis Winfield has been married to Morton Delgado, yet she has never once appeared on his social media. When his company rings the IPO bell, the screen plays a family video featuring his parents, his sister, and Sabina Pruitt at his side, calling out a New Year greeting. Morton dismisses it as careless editing, and his mother, Sylvia, tells Mavis she is his lawful wife and should not fuss.

Only later does Mavis learn he does post: the tie Sabina gave him, the cake Sabina baked, the seaside sunset from a trip Sabina took with him. She has been filed under a group called Family—Do Not View. At the ceremony, Sylvia presses Mavis's bouquet into Sabina's hands, and a staff member bars Mavis from the media zone, saying the only family member on Morton's list is Miss Pruitt.

At the banquet, Mavis is seated at the second table while Sabina sits beside Morton. When a guest mistakes Sabina for Mrs. Delgado, Sylvia calls Mavis family help.
