Six Years of Feigned Devotion

For six years, Rowan Archer believed Alaric Newlywed loved her. The affection meter above his head always read zero, but he adored her, and on their sixth anniversary he proposed in public. Then a stream of comments scrolled across her vision, revealing the truth: Alaric is the secondary lead, pretending devotion all these years only to protect the heroine, Elara. A system alert confirms it—a ten-day countdown to pursuit, and failure means her complete erasure. She pulls her hand back from the ring.

In his study she finds the chat logs between Alaric and Julian Vance, sworn rivals united to keep Elara safe. There he vows that if Rowan ever touches Elara, he will break her limbs and lock her away for life. So she runs, dragging a suitcase into the night, and he follows, his panic perfectly acted. She asks whether he was ever truly happy. He does not answer.

In a riverside coffee shop she reclaims the dreams she abandoned for him, and the countdown ticks on. The game is not over, but the player no longer follows the rules.
