Chapter 3Saving the Broken Hero

While Caleb massaged my feet, I asked the system about the plot.

"Caleb is a destitute and pitiful male lead. His parents died in a car accident due to brake failure. Without money, he had to drop out of college. He worked odd jobs but got stiffed on wages and was beaten up. When you found him, he hadn't eaten for almost three days."

"I detected he had lost the will to live, so I found you to save him."

I asked the system why me.

The system said it didn't know; the program just indicated it so.

"Maybe this is destiny."

Seeing my lack of interest, the system quickly added.

"Caleb is the male lead. Being by his side will keep you beautiful, rich, healthy, and long-lived."

I looked at Caleb, who was meekly massaging me, and my mood improved slightly.

"Fine."

After a while, my feet finally felt better.

I ordered Caleb to put my shoes back on.

Then told him to come home with me.

Before leaving, I took a candy from my bag and handed it to Caleb.

And told him to eat it.

The system was very gratified.

"You've finally started the redemption arc."

But fell silent the next second.

Because I ordered Caleb to carry me down the stairs.

"So you gave him candy because you were afraid he wouldn't have the strength."

Leaning on Caleb's back, I retorted to the system.

"Yeah, if he drops me, it'll hurt."

Caleb carried me down six flights of stairs. When he put me down, he was panting, face flushed.

Like he was exhausted.

The system popped up.

"The male lead looks so pitiful, praise him."

I looked disdainful.

"Panting just from going downstairs, how can you be so useless?"

Caleb lowered his head in shame.
