Sacrifice in Shadows

After Matthew Larson is ambushed, his wife risks everything to save him and loses the use of her legs. Devastated, he swears he will love her forever and never betray her, and she agrees to marry him. In secret she seeks treatment, and when a doctor tells her she can walk again, she rushes home to share the news.

At the door her world collapses: Matthew is with his female assistant in their bed. The woman calls her a cripple, and Matthew admits the sneaking around is the thrill. Heartbroken, she books a flight home and calls her professor to rejoin the research team, signing away the outside world for seven days.

Then a pregnancy test shows two red lines, though she and Matthew have not been close for months. As he plays the devoted husband, she hides the truth and counts the days until she leaves him to his regret.
