Her Buried Past

Zara Hale's memorial service is overrun by trolls who livestream her funeral and chant that she deserved to die. Her ex-husband, the A-list actor Rick Brown, spends the week celebrating on a yacht with his lover, and when he appears on a talk show, he shrugs off her death as nothing. The host then produces Zara's diary and reads it aloud on air.

The first pages reveal a young bride who married the boy she loved at eighteen, an orphan who found her first home and her first hug in Rick's family. Later entries show her skipping meals to save money, grieving a best friend who died because they could not afford five thousand dollars in treatment, and remembering Maeve, an orphanage friend whose adoptive family cut out her tongue. Rick listens, unmoved, insisting she must have been hiding something shameful.

As the diary is read page by page, the audience begins to question the monster they were told to hate, while Rick refuses to see the wife he once swore to love.
