A Love Made of Scars

Seven years ago, a drawing was meant to decide which Ashworth twin would marry Alistair Vaughn. Seraphina privately told him the name chosen would be her sister Sabrina's. Yet the slip bore Seraphina's name, and Alistair has believed ever since that she tricked her way into the marriage. For seven years he has shown her nothing but contempt, parading Sabrina as his true love and letting her humiliate Seraphina without end.

When Sabrina turns a knife on Seraphina's face, Alistair shields Sabrina and orders Seraphina restrained. He drags her to the Avalon Clinic for forced facial surgery, and there a doctor reveals she is pregnant. Alistair accuses her of drugging him, while Sabrina demands he choose between her and the child. He orders the pregnancy ended and the surgery carried out.

Seraphina wakes bandaged and empty, the life inside her gone. As Sabrina records her breakdown, she clings to a memory: it was Alistair who once took her hand and promised her a lifetime.
