Story

The story

Suzie finally regains her sight, but before she can tell her parents, notes begin appearing everywhere in the house, warning her not to reveal that she can see. The handwriting grows more frantic with each message, and the housekeeper, who is secretly a scarred man, watches her with unsettling possessiveness.

When her parents return home, Suzie pretends she is still blind, for her mother stands in a bloodstained nurse's uniform clutching a knife, and her father's rage erupts the moment he suspects the truth. Notes litter the floor, an arm lies on the cutting board, and a finger floats in her dinner bowl. Suzie must keep up her act to survive, even as she realizes her memories of this place are full of holes.

Trapped among people who wear her parents' faces, Suzie searches for whoever left the warnings, knowing that if she slips, it will be all over.

Opening excerpt

I finally recovered my sight. Just as I was about to tell my parents about it, a slip of paper on the table caught my attention.

"Don't tell your parents you've recovered your sight."

Now that I could see again, why shouldn't I tell my parents, who had worked so hard to take care of me all this time?

I shrugged, tossing the crumpled paper into the bin. It was probably just some prank.
