Story
The story
Adrian Maxine, heir to a powerful conglomerate, watches his fiancée Vivian Linwood hand a contract transferring ownership of her body to his sworn enemy, Marcus Thorne, at their own engagement party. She kisses Marcus before the assembled guests, and the humiliated Adrian quietly orders an end to his family's protection of the Linwood enterprises.
Cassia Vance, just back from the Delta, denounces Vivian as unfit for the Maxine family and exposes Marcus as a leech who built his career on data Vivian stole from Adrian. Vivian's parents arrive to dismiss the affair as youthful folly, but Adrian ends the engagement, and her mother retorts that the Linwoods' debt to the Maxines can never be repaid.
When Vivian summons Adrian to a street corner and arrives arm in arm with Marcus, she proposes he accept her arrangement. Adrian agrees to consider it only if Marcus kneels and apologizes, and Marcus laughs and accepts.
