Story

The story

Derek Harding's first love, Kitty Simmons, comes home broke, her family's historic estate headed for foreclosure. When Ruby Henson asks her husband whether he still loves Kitty, he tells her not to be ridiculous, that he isn't that fickle. She believes him.

Then his phone lights up at midnight: an eight-million-dollar withdrawal, the opening bid on the Simmons estate, drawn from their joint marital funds. The transfer memo reads "Kitty's House." Derek insists he was only helping an old friend and that the money won't affect the household, while Kitty's posts thank someone for staying when everyone else walked away.

Ruby remembers what he said the day he proposed: a man like him only loves once in his life. Now she must decide whether a marriage built on being "suitable" can survive the woman he never forgot.
