Story

The story

In the fifth year of their marriage, District Attorney Liam Davies treats his wife Stella with cold indifference, dismissing her bleeding ulcer, her birthday, and even her pregnancy loss. His attention belongs instead to his intern Mia, whose playful cruelty lands Stella in the hospital.

When Stella's father, Robert Smith, is framed for murder, Liam recuses himself to demand the death penalty, while Mia boasts online that her own brother walked free. Stella gathers proof of her father's innocence, but the department turns on her, Mia feigns injury, and Liam has her restrained. Racing to the penitentiary, she watches the executioner's rifle fire.

Waking from the nightmare, Stella files a public whistleblower complaint against Liam. He warns her that her mother may be locked in a psychiatric ward. Stella refuses to let her father die a murderer's death.

"Stella, are you done causing trouble out of nowhere? If you are, then stop annoying me."
