Story
The story
Locked in a cellar and starved to death by her husband, Duke Alistair, Elara wakes on the night her daughter Rosalie plans to elope. In her last life, she exposed Leo as a thief with a wife and children, and Rosalie never forgave her for it. Now Rosalie accuses her of ruining her happiness, while Alistair and his mistress Liana watch.
Elara remembers the nine children Alistair had drowned, the son Gideon she raised, and the cruelty that met her care. This time she will not fight their love. She gives Rosalie her blessing to marry Leo, and Liana's triumph turns to fury.
As Gideon hurls himself at her, Elara faces the family she once saved, now her enemies.
Opening excerpt
1
My funeral was grand, fitting for a duke’s wife.
As I lay in my coffin, guests whispered of my blessed life—a respected husband, devoted children, a lifetime of honor.
No one knew the truth.
No one knew I had been locked in the cellar and starved to death.
