Hiding my hatred behind a submissive demeanor, I answered Evelyn quietly, "Okay, Mom. I'll do whatever Chloe needs for her videos."

Evelyn seemed caught off guard by how compliant I was, but she still snarled, "Then what are you standing there like an idiot for? Don't you know what time it is? Get into the kitchen and make dinner, you useless parasite!"

I clenched my fists hidden in my pockets, reminding myself not to blow my cover just yet. I turned around and headed to the kitchen.

While dinner was on the stove, Brandon walked through the front door.

I had just washed my hands and was pulling out a chair when he kicked me hard in the shin. "Eating? Are you serious? The convenience store shelves are practically empty. Go restock them."

Swallowing the pain, I muttered an agreement, grabbed the store keys off the shoe rack, and walked downstairs without another word.

When we got married, my parents had gifted me a prime commercial space as part of my wedding settlement. We turned it into a small convenience store.

Ever since it opened, not a single person in this family worked a real job. They all lived off the store's revenue.

Worse, they dumped the dirtiest, heaviest chores—unloading inventory and stocking shelves—entirely on me.

To keep up with household expenses, I worked a day job and spent my nights breaking my back organizing that store.

Nobody knew our inventory better than I did.

After stocking the shelves, I grabbed some sausages, bread, and drinks, and headed to the back storage warehouse.

Once I finished eating, I dialed my parents, who lived out in the quiet suburbs.

Hearing my mom's voice through the receiver brought tears instantly to my eyes.

In my last life, after I died, my parents called my phone over and over. When nobody picked up, they called Brandon.

Terrified that the truth would leak, Brandon used my SnapChat to text them back, making them believe I was still alive and well.

Then the deep freeze struck.

Desperate, my parents messaged me, asking if I could spare some food because the cold had hit too fast and suburban supply chains were wiped out.

Chloe caught a glimpse of the messages and nudged Brandon to squeeze every penny out of them.

Together, they concocted a lie saying I had fallen critically ill, even having Chloe wear my jacket to impersonate me in dark, blurry photos.

My parents believed them and wired every single cent of their life savings.

The moment the money cleared, Brandon and Chloe initiated a FaceTime call. They laughed in my parents' faces, calling them pathetic, brainless fools, sneering that it made sense their daughter was an idiot too.

They announced I had frozen to death days ago and flipped the camera to show my pale, frozen corpse lying on the balcony.

The shock gave my dad a massive, fatal heart attack right on the screen. My mom's terrified screams echoed until Brandon hung up.
