For three years, Susanna has cared for her mother-in-law Martha, who suffers from Alzheimer's, treating her as her own mother. Martha forces her to sleep standing, drink from the toilet, and eat from a bowl meant for waste, until Susanna sinks into severe depression and attempts suicide.
