Faking Her Death to Ski with Him

Clyde Barton's fiancée, Hazel Mullins, once claimed she could only feel satisfaction through touching him. When Rory Newman, heir to the Newman family, boasted he would win her over, Hazel auctioned off the seductive photos he sent her, ruining his reputation. Disowned and enraged, Rory jumped off a bridge, and Hazel leaped in after him, leaving Clyde the laughingstock of their circle.

On a ski trip in the Alps, Clyde runs into Hazel helping Rory pick out ski gear. She insists Rory is recovering from emotional trauma and warns Clyde not to throw another tantrum, unaware that Clyde married Sonia Cervantes the very day Hazel jumped. When Hazel spots his engraved couple's bracelet, she accuses him of staging the encounter to provoke her. Then the resort manager, Hans Copeland, reveals Hazel has bought out the slope Clyde and his wife reserved, and Rory invites him to a doubles ski race.

Clyde wants nothing to do with them, but the champion's prize—a one-of-a-kind antique ski pole and custom gear he could engrave with his and Sonia's initials—might be worth entering for.
