Story

The story

At her wedding, Alma Fox discovers the ring Robert Morton tries to slide onto her finger will not fit. Maya Gray laughs and reveals the band is the one he once proposed with, her initials still engraved inside. His groomsmen joke that Robert kissed Maya while she slept the night before, and Alma realizes she was only chosen because Maya refused him and his ill grandmother demanded he settle down.

When Alma calls off the ceremony, Robert grabs her wrist and threatens to humiliate her before the guests. Maya then declares she is renouncing her no-marriage stance, and Robert seizes her hand, his groomsmen cheering that this is the love he always wanted. Maya falls from the stage and blames Alma, who insists she never touched her.

With the guests murmuring and Robert turning on her, Alma stands alone against the crowd.

Opening excerpt

Beside him, Maya Gray doubled over laughing. "Bro, isn't this the ring you proposed to me with back then? The band's tiny. How's Alma Fox supposed to get that on?"

She snatched the ring out of his hand and tapped the initials engraved inside, clicking her tongue. "Look, my initials are still in here. Not gonna lie, bro, why didn't you get Alma a new one?"
