A New Decade Begins with a Bottle of Perfume

Aurora has spent ten years beside Nathaniel, an actor whose pay rose from five thousand an episode to thirty million a film. Early on, when she bought a limited-edition bottle of Silver Iris with her own savings, he called her vain and wasteful. Since then he has bought her bags, watches and jewelry, but never perfume, and she learned to keep her love of fragrance to herself.

Then she sees a wrap-party post from Isabelle, an actress in Nathaniel's latest film: a silver bottle engraved with Aurora's own initials, and Nathaniel leaning in with a tender smile. Aurora likes the post, books a termination, and posts her signed consent form and divorce papers. At her hospital bedside Nathaniel rages that she is throwing away their baby over a trivial gift, insisting he only gave Isabelle the perfume out of pity.

When he has every bottle of Silver Iris in the city delivered to her room, Aurora blocks his number and calls her friend Zoe about the promised trip to Iceland. Then Isabelle arrives at the house, weeping and begging her not to divorce him.
