Story
The story
Alex Reed is a quiet university professor married to Scarlett Hayes, whose father Richard has just rebuilt his fortune after a crushing collapse. What Richard and Scarlett do not know is that Alex was the anonymous buyer who quietly settled the family's thirty million in debt. Now Richard wants him gone, offering two hundred thousand dollars to divorce Scarlett, while a wealthy suitor named Eric Sterling sits at the family table.
At a dinner meant to humiliate him, Alex agrees to the divorce, but on one condition: a grand banquet where the end of the marriage will be announced before everyone. Richard and Eric seize the chance to show off their triumph, unaware of what Alex is planning.
Scarlett chose this path, and at the coming banquet she must play the star.
Opening excerpt
The first thing my father-in-law did after his company went public was order my wife to divorce me.
"Divorce him! I'll find you someone rich! A struggling professor? He 's not good enough for you! I must have been blind to allow this marriage."
I smiled.
He truly was blind.
Last year, when his empire was crumbling under thirty million in debt, I was the anonymous buyer who quietly purchased every last note..
If I hadn't stepped in when I did, he would have been bankrupt!
