At the Birthday Party, I Delivered the Divorce Papers to My Husband

On her fifth wedding anniversary, Adeline's husband Nolan gives her a necklace he claims he designed, but a curly hair on the chain betrays him—she had already seen it on his assistant Fiona's page. When she tosses it away, Nolan accuses her of ruining their anniversary, blind to the butterfly design that recalls the father she lost.

Adeline has already scheduled an abortion; she saw Nolan accompanying Fiona, who is three weeks further along, at the hospital. As she pursues a screenwriting job with Wesley, Nolan asks for a child, unaware she would rather abort than bear his. At the hospital, a screaming woman knocks Adeline down, and as blood flows, Nolan abandons her to comfort Fiona.
