Power Outage in the PICU

In the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, a sudden power outage plunges the ward into darkness. Dr. Luther, the head of pediatrics on night duty, stays calm as the incubators slowly cool and the babies begin to wail. She remembers her previous life: she connected the backup power supplies, yet the children still died, and her son Shawn Giddey gave the police a video claiming she wished the patients dead. Blamed for freezing over a hundred children, she was dragged into an alley by grieving parents and beaten for ten hours until she died.

Now she has woken on the day of the outage. Shawn urges her to act, but she notices cunning beneath his panic. When she refuses to choose which children to save first, he accuses her before the visiting parents, and her husband Ian Giddey arrives to slap her. Watching them, she wonders how the children could have frozen in a thermostatically controlled ward, and why her own family is framing her.
