The Fog is Gone, Love is Gone

Joanna George returns home for the holidays and finds her room remade as a boy's room. Her parents have adopted a six-year-old orphan, John George, without telling her, and they expect her to keep supporting them. When the boy throws food at her, Joanna fights back and declares that either he or she stays in the family.

She moves her belongings out and warns her parents that the cost of what the boy lost will come out of their monthly living expenses. Back at her Birmingham villa, she finds Zeke Willson hosting a party with strangers. She orders everyone out and goes to bed, waking to a phone with no new messages.
