My Ex Gave My Savings to His "Mentee," So I Ruined Him

Chloe has spent two years saving ten thousand dollars from side hustles, and she has spent two weeks preparing the dinner where Ethan, her boyfriend, is finally meant to meet her parents. He never arrives. When he calls, he explains that he lent their shared savings—fifteen thousand dollars—to Lily, a junior from his college who was scammed and needed help settling in the city.

Chloe ends the relationship on the spot and demands her ten thousand dollars back within three days, or she will involve her lawyer. Her father tells her it is better to see Ethan's true colors now. Walking home afterward, she finds Lily inside the apartment she shares with Ethan, sleeping in the bedroom while he takes the couch.

Ethan insists Lily has nowhere else to go and calls Chloe heartless for objecting. As Chloe packs her clothes to move out, she asks him how Lily, given fifteen thousand dollars, still cannot pay rent—and his answer does not hold together.
