Love is a Fatal Crisis

Maya is finishing her master's thesis and has just landed a job interview with a foreign company when her boyfriend Nathan Karson calls, urging her to come home and meet his parents. She hesitates, worried about the interview, but Nathan insists they will fly there and back in time. When he asks her for money for the tickets, her doubts grow.

Nathan refuses to let the trip go. He waits outside her dorm with breakfast, then drops to his knees before a crowd of students, claiming his mother is dying and begging Maya to come. Strangers shame her for putting her career first, but Maya stands firm: they will go after her interview, or not at all. Nathan finally agrees.

After she gets the job, Nathan arranges the journey: a fifty-six-hour train ride in a hard-seat coach, then a rattling shuttle bus toward a remote county. As the mountains and dense forests close in, Maya, a child of the mountains, senses that Nathan is leading her somewhere she may not easily leave.
