Story

The story

Logan Bennett wakes on the morning he and his desk mate Avery Collins are caught stealing mock exam papers, the day his old life began. In that life he took the blame, married Avery, and raised a daughter, Emma, only to be cast out at Emma's wedding and told that Caleb Morgan was her real father. Now he names Avery as the mastermind and offers a fresh test to prove it.

Avery weeps and claims she is guilty, then runs from the classroom. His classmates turn on him, and Mr. Dorian Whitaker throws a book and summons Logan's father, Daniel Bennett, and mother, Karen Bennett. Logan remembers his parents' fatal hiking fall in his previous life and suspects Avery was behind it.

When Avery suddenly rushes in and takes the blame, and Caleb bursts in to protest, Logan is left stunned, certain the two had been in love for decades.

Opening excerpt

When our teacher caught my desk mate, Avery Collins, and me stealing mock exam papers just before the college entrance exam, he shouted, "The college entrance exam is right around the corner! What was the point of stealing the mock exam papers? Tell me, who was the mastermind?"

In my previous life, I took the blame without hesitation. My father nearly beat me to death for it.
