When My Daughter Was Critically Ill, They Were in Love

When their daughter Alice Luke falls gravely ill with acute pneumonia, Riley stays home to care for her, leaving only when her husband Cody Luke promises to watch the child. But the moment she steps out, Cody rushes to his first love, Yara Lynch, who claims she has twisted her ankle. By the time Riley returns, Alice is barely breathing on the floor, and a call to Cody only reaches Yara, who says he is cooking her dinner.

After Alice dies, Cody finally calls back, insisting Yara is having a breakdown and needs him. Riley blocks him everywhere, yet at home she finds the two curled together, Yara smug and unrepentant. When Riley asks for a divorce, Cody panics and phones Dr. Clark, still believing Alice is alive in a hospital. At the mountain where she takes her daughter's ashes, Riley discovers Yara pouring them out to replace them with a dead teddy bear's remains, and Cody calls the urn a worthless box.
