Story

The story

After five years working overseas, Jude returns home to find children's clothes and toys scattered through the house. His wife Nora says they are for the children they will one day have. On the day of their postponed wedding, her childhood friend Ezra arrives with two children, and the truth comes out: Nora has already married Ezra and has three children with him. She shows no guilt, insisting her heart has always belonged to Jude.

Jude calls off the wedding and drives Ezra to the hospital, then asks his secretary to prepare divorce papers. Nora protests, and Ezra, who claims to be terminally ill, kneels before Jude with the children. When Jude returns home, he finds his study wrecked and his laptop and USB drive destroyed. At dinner, a child slips peanuts into his food, triggering a severe allergic reaction, and Nora refuses to call for help.

Jude collapses and wakes in a hospital, where a doctor named Aurelia asks if he remembers her. She says she once saved him from the same peanut allergy five years ago, before he disappeared from the hospital.

Opening excerpt

After being away for five years, I returned home to find numerous children's clothes and toys scattered around. My wife explained these were for our future children. But on the day of our postponed wedding, her childhood friend crashed the ceremony with two kids in tow. It turned out that the wife, who claimed to be faithful, had already married her childhood friend and had three children with him. When I confronted her, she showed no guilt.
