Story
The story
For ten years, Ella has lived as an unwanted burden in the Sunward Pack. Her Alpha father, Richard, blames her for her mother Lillian's disappearance, and he has replaced her with Sophia, an adopted girl who resembles Lillian and is named his sole heir. Ella wears hand-me-downs, sleeps in the servants' quarters, and endures Sophia's cruelty and the pack's contempt, all while Richard looks away.
On the eve of Sophia's sixteenth birthday and Heir Recognition Ceremony, Ella is the only student excluded from the celebration. When she finally strikes back at Sophia's taunts, she is injured and punished, and Richard's disgust makes clear how completely she has lost her father. Yet Ella's own sixteenth birthday is only three days away, and the true Luna of the Sunward Pack is about to return.
Opening excerpt
He blamed me for her disappearance. He hated looking at my face because I didn't look enough like her.
So, he adopted Sophia, a girl who looked eighty percent like my mother, and spoiled her rotten.
Richard took her on trips, brought her to pack gatherings, and announced to everyone that Sophia was the sole heir of the Sunward Pack.
Meanwhile, I wore oversized hand-me-downs and lived in the drafty servants' quarters of the packhouse.
He let Sophia bully me, frame me, and even push me into the lake when he knew I couldn't swim.
"It’s what you deserve," he would say.
