Story

The story

After Zamari Bill is rejected by Caleb, she locks him and Athena in a dark room and demands Athena cut off her own hand or watch Caleb be castrated. Athena obeys, then slashes Zamari's throat to save him. Caleb promises to testify that it was self-defense, but in court he turns on her, and Athena is sentenced to five years in prison.

Released, Athena finds Caleb waiting outside with Zamari, who now wears the scar from Athena's blade. He offers her three thousand dollars for a prosthetic and tells her to forget the past, then moves Zamari into the home Athena's parents left her. Frank Tydor, brother of Samantha Tydor, whom Athena protected in prison, drives her away from the gates, but Zamari warns that the real show is yet to come.

Athena vows to reclaim her home and make Caleb and Zamari pay.

Opening excerpt

She gathered a group of thugs and locked Caleb and me in a small dark room.

"Cut off your hands, or I will castrate him." Zamari sneered as she tossed an axe in front of me.

Caleb looked at me with terror in his eyes, struggling desperately.

I had no choice. Gritting my teeth, I swung the axe and it fell.
