The Dead Ex-Fiancée He Destroyed Came Back as a Billionaire

Maud Simmons suffers from severe prosopagnosia: every face looks the same to her. The only thing she ever recognized was the red burn scar on the back of her fiancé Abner Harding's neck — a mark she gave him the night she carried him out of a burning building on her back. He always swore that as long as he could find his bride in a sea of faces, that was enough.

Then Maud overhears Abner with her younger sister Wendy, the woman he believes saved him from that fire. He plans to take the Simmons family heirloom after cutting her birthday cake, trade it for controlling shares, and fly Wendy abroad to treat her leg — all while calling Maud too stupid to recognize him. Maud says nothing. She calls an overseas doctor and agrees to fly to Los Angeles alone for surgery, then cuts Abner out of every photograph.

At the birthday banquet, Wendy's wheelchair lurches and the cake knife swings at Maud. Abner shoves Maud aside to shield Wendy, sending her into a champagne tower. Bleeding among the shards, Maud tells him the jade token is in a bank vault — and his fury stops cold.
