Not the Wedding I Need

Minerva's wedding to Harold Lawson is only 48 hours away, yet he plans to marry her in a simple pizzeria while promising his true love, Ivory Frost, the rest of his life on a luxury cruise. Curled up on the floor with gastritis, she cannot reach him; she wakes in the hospital to find he has turned his bachelor party into a wedding night for himself and Ivory.

At home, Harold locks Minerva out while Ivory, damp-haired in his shirt, waits inside. He orders Minerva to cook, throws a pot of scalding broth over her arm, then abandons her to take Ivory to dinner. The pizzeria, she realises, holds his memories with Ivory, not with her. She calls off the wedding and turns the feast into a farewell party.

With the hours counting down, Minerva watches Harold fuss over Ivory at the hospital and on the swings, and learns the necklace he ordered bears Ivory's name. Calmly, she begins to deal with everything else.
