Her Cardiac Episodes Steal Half My Fiancé's Love

On her wedding day, Mallory watches Clyde McGlinchey cancel the ceremony the moment Jacqueline Ortberg suffers a heart attack at the venue. He carries Jacqueline away, leaving Mallory barefoot on a mountain road while guests blame her and demand their gifts back. When Clyde calls, he rages that she let the wedding slip, then denies wanting to marry her the instant Jacqueline's voice comes through the line.

Back home with a fever, Mallory finds the ring he gives her is Jacqueline's size. Clyde moves Jacqueline into their house, changes the door code, and pins only her messages. Learning it is Mallory's birthday, he still walks out to Jacqueline's hospital bedside. Mallory quietly books a flight, resigns, and packs, telling her mother she is coming home.

Returning past midnight, she finds the code changed and Jacqueline asleep in their bed. Clyde transfers her share of the house, and Mallory locks herself in the guest room while he stands outside her door, not knocking.
