Memories Drift Away with the Wind

During a game of Truth or Dare, Todd Rossi buys drinks for everyone in the room, remembering each friend's exact order—but when he reaches Harper, the bag is empty. He offers to share his cup instead, and his friends laugh it off as affection. Harper knows better: after four years together, he still cannot recall that she is allergic to peaches.

Lula Rios, his childhood friend, sips from his straw while the room roars with laughter Harper does not understand. When she says nothing, Todd accuses her of making his friends uncomfortable and hands both drinks to Lula. Outside, a call from the HR director confirms her resignation, and when she returns, the room is empty—Todd has left for a beach barbecue without her.

At home, Harper finds the graduation gowns he once kept for their wedding photos thrown away, replaced by jewelry he has been collecting for Lula's birthday. His memory was never failing; she was simply no longer the one he chose to remember.
