The Thirty-Dollar Inheritance

For thirty years, Clara Vance's live-in husband Richard Sterling has cheated on her, while his illegitimate son Alexander was handed an executive post in her family's company. Everyone waits for Clara to humiliate herself, but she spends her days at Michelin-star restaurants, shopping, playing mahjong and posting afternoon tea photos, and they call her an idiot behind her back.

Then Richard collapses at a board meeting and is diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer. From his hospital bed he executes a will leaving the corporation and all his liquid assets to Alexander, dismissing Clara as entitled to nothing. Shareholders, his mother and his sister watch gleefully, phones raised to record her breakdown.

Clara only smiles and asks whether he has forgotten the prenuptial agreement he signed on marrying into her family, and the terms of its thirty years. The color drains from his face as the show begins.
