Mom had barely left before Amelia started acting like the new woman of the house.
“Chloe, sweetie, we're a family now.”
She smiled gently and actually went into the kitchen to make dinner herself.
Four courses. Beautifully presented.
“Chloe, try my Sweet and Sour Crispy Fish. It's my specialty.”
She enthusiastically put food on my plate.
I stared at the fish, looking perfect on its plate. I had zero appetite.
My mom might be naive, but her cooking was next level.
I grew up on her food; my palate was spoiled.
I put down my fork, pulled out my phone, and opened a food delivery app.
“Large deluxe truffle pizza, double cheese, and a full sushi platter...”
I ordered delivery right in front of her, slow and deliberate.
Amelia’s smile froze on her face.
“Chloe, I worked so hard on this dinner...”
I cut her off. “Miss Amelia, Dad pays for a professional chef. You don't need to cook. Besides, I don't like the food you make.”
The rage finally began to show on her face.
Dad came out of the study right at that moment. He saw the scene and frowned.
“Chloe, is that any way to speak to Amelia?”
I didn't argue. I just shrugged.
“If you like it so much, Dad, feel free to eat it all.”
Dad naturally felt he had to protect his first love. He picked up his fork and took a bite of the fish.
While Amelia watched him hopefully, Dad hesitated.
Then he said, trying to be polite, “Amelia, let's leave the cooking to the chef from now on.”
Amelia nodded, looking humiliated, but didn't dare say a word back.
The delivery arrived quickly. I set up the projector and ate my pizza with gusto.
Meanwhile, Amelia's carefully prepared dinner sat there on the table, totally ignored.
