Story

The story

Lily Peterson's childhood sweetheart, Sean Clements, kills Tristin Foley's seventy-year-old mother while drunk-driving. Lily signs a letter of forgiveness, claiming the dead woman lay beneath the wheels to scam Sean, and Sean walks free with a ten-million-dollar insurance payout. When Tristin asks for a divorce, Lily dismisses him as childish, unaware he has hidden a divorce agreement among the case-closure documents she already signed.

Lily abandons Tristin at the crematorium to soothe Sean, scraps the car his mother bought them, and spends the night with her sweetheart. At her office, Sean smashes a vase over Tristin's head and breaks his teeth while the staff mock him. Lily slaps Tristin when Sean fakes a poisoning, then orders ten pounds of chili peppers force-fed to a man deathly allergic to them.

As the asthma attack takes hold, Tristin reaches for the one contact who answers at once, promising to return to Luthenia.
