Story

The story

For three years of marriage, Asher Sterling has never touched his wife, Chloe. She is only a substitute for her sister, Sienna. So Chloe stages an affair: she marks her own neck with fake hickeys, tears her lace nightgown, and sends Asher a mocking anonymous message with a photo, demanding a divorce. She believes he is far away in London and that disgust will finally free her.

But Asher calls her real number again and again, then flies back overnight. In the early morning he stands at her bedroom door, his knuckles split and bleeding. He grips her arm, his gaze fixed on the band-aid hiding the bruises on her neck, and asks what she was doing last night. As he pulls her close, Chloe whispers for him not to touch her, and realizes she has said too much.

Three years of marriage, and Asher Sterling has never touched me.

I put on a sheer lace nightgown, faked a collarbone full of hickeys, and sent him a sleepy selfie from a "third-person" angle.

"Man, she smells amazing."

"Hurry up and divorce her so I can have her."

I figured Asher would be disgusted and furious when he got this anonymous text. He would toss me out like trash.

After all, I was just my sister’s substitute.
