Disappointments Accumulate, Love Has Disappeared

At a company dinner, Sophie declares she will never have children because no man is worth ten months of pregnancy. Her husband Kyle leaves the gathering and returns home to a courier package: Sophie's pregnancy report. She is one month along, and he has just come back from a two-month business trip. Rather than rage, Kyle feels relief and calls to ask for a divorce.

Sophie dismisses him, and a soft male voice joins the call—Ethan, her childhood friend. At the villa Kyle bought before the marriage, Sophie arrives on Ethan's arm, ordering Kyle to fetch slippers for him. Ethan kneels and weeps an apology, and Sophie slaps Kyle. He slaps the pregnancy report against her face; she insists the baby is Ethan's, conceived by artificial insemination to ease his family's pressure.

Sophie refuses to let the marriage end, arguing the child should not be born into a single-parent household, while Ethan offers to help raise it. Kyle, his love long worn away by accumulated disappointment, prepares the divorce papers and tells her to move out.
