Murder Charges Over a Missing Order

Jeremiah Reeves scrapes together his entire month's allowance for a birthday treat: barbecue skewers delivered to the school gate. When he reaches the stand, the owner tells him the order was collected an hour earlier. The security footage shows Louis Jones, the wealthy classmate who never hides his contempt for poor students, walking off with the bag.

Louis admits he ate it and offers money, then humiliates Jeremiah in front of the class, calling him a beggar and telling him to drop out and beg on the streets. Three days later, Louis is found burned to death in the alley behind the school, tied to a tree, takeout boxes laid beside the body. Police call it murder and come to the classroom asking questions. Captain Colson asks Jeremiah about the argument and his whereabouts, and Jeremiah knows the stolen meal now points straight at him.
