He Said It Was A Prank

Amelia Ross has spent six years fighting for her place in the Vitelli family, and four years waiting on a promise: once the family's personnel changes are settled, she and Don Enzo Vitelli will marry. Then, the day before the transfer deadline, she finds an order sending her to the Bellarosa branch — filed by Lucrezia Calderon, the young assistant Enzo keeps close. When Amelia calls him, he calls it a prank and tells her to cancel it herself.

Enzo's new "little sister" is barely of age, and he defends her at every turn, even as Amelia reminds him what the family rules allow for someone who abuses their access. When Lucrezia comes to the door to ask permission to drink with him, Enzo turns on Amelia instead, telling her she is not fit to be his wife or his mistress. Six years of trust and promises come down to a single demand: apologize to the girl who treated her future as a joke.
