His Luck Ran Out

For Ryan's birthday, Paige gives him a jar of paper stars she folded by hand, while his friends and Tessa present gifts worth hundreds of dollars. When Tessa snatches the jar from Paige's purse and mocks it, the table erupts in laughter and Ryan turns on Paige, calling her calculated and cheap before tossing the jar into a trash can.

Paige retrieves it and refuses to stay quiet. She reminds Ryan that the watch, razor, cologne and shoes he wears all came from her, and she challenges him to tally everything they have spent on each other. Ryan sneers that she is bound for a small town and a family business while his future is bright, and the room laughs when Paige says a Maybach key is hidden inside the jar.

As the ridicule dies down, Paige has nothing left to protect, and the gift Ryan threw away may be worth more than anyone at the table believes.
