Story

The story

A single veterinarian runs a small clinic called "The Healing Paw," treating neighbourhood strays for free — though the animals pay a terrible price: neutering. Lately, healthy cats and dogs loiter outside, tailing her with suspicious, furtive movements, and she suspects a gang is casing the place for revenge.

Then a strange app appears on her phone: a forum whose posts read like they were written by cats and dogs. There she finds herself revered as the Godmother, and a protection squad of strays escorts her home each night. When a regular client's grey tabby, Little Meow, vanishes, she posts a plea for help on the forum — and the replies reveal that the missing house cat is none other than Scar, the forum's fearsome admin. Then a reply asks why the poster's identity is verified as human.

Opening excerpt

I run a pet clinic and often treat stray animals. After stumbling upon a mysterious online forum, I discovered they revere me as their "Godmother."

Scar_the_Ranger: [The Godmother’s getting off work. Who’s on escort duty?]

The_Bitty_Brawler: [Pausing my sparring match. I’ll go.]
