Story

The story

Five years into their relationship, Morton Delgado asks his wealthy girlfriend Grace Rowe to lend him three thousand dollars for his mother's surgery. Grace refuses, saying her family would look down on him, and hangs up to bid at an auction. She has just spent millions on a ring for Theodore Sanchez, her childhood friend.

Morton ends things and blocks her. Grace insists he still owes her obedience: she has already had his marrow tested, and Theodore needs a transplant. When Morton refuses, her bodyguards drag him to the hospital. Theodore's match report, he learns, was forged.

Anesthetized and alone in a hospital room, Morton hears two doctors say his blood is being drawn not to save anyone, but to teach him a lesson.

Five years into our relationship, I asked my rich girlfriend to lend me three thousand dollars.

She turned me down without a second's hesitation.

"Baby, three thousand is what I'd spend on one meal. I can give it to you if I want, but you can't be the one asking for it. My family would look down on you."
