Story

The story

Chloe and her husband Jason both feel unwell, so they visit the hospital together. Jason is told he has only mild indigestion, but Chloe is diagnosed with stomach cancer. Before she can absorb the shock, her mother-in-law Brenda phones and coldly orders her to skip treatment, warning that cancer cannot be cured and that hospital bills would drain the family. Jason agrees, insisting Lily still needs to go to school and that Chloe should not leave him broke and alone. Hailey, her sister-in-law, is delighted and begins introducing matchmakers to Jason, who openly brings other women into their home.

Chloe refuses to give up. She demands they sell the house and hand her half the money for treatment, but Jason threatens divorce rather than let his mother and sister suffer. She agrees, taking her share of the assets to pay her medical bills.

Then the truth surfaces: it was a massive hospital mix-up, and the one who actually has cancer is Jason. When he comes begging her for money to treat his illness, she gives him the exact same advice he once gave her.

Opening excerpt

My sister-in-law, Hailey, was thrilled and immediately started introducing matchmakers to my husband.

My husband, Jason, said, "Once you’re gone, someone has to take care of our daughter, Lily."

He even started openly bringing other women to our house.

I divorced him, took my half of the assets to pay for my medical bills, only to discover it was a massive hospital mix-up.
