Story

The story

On Valentine's Day, Eric Dawson's wife Ivy is kidnapped by Alan Turner, the bankrupt president of the Turner Group, who livestreams the crime to the entire internet and demands half of Dawson Group's shares as ransom. As Ivy's severed finger arrives by courier and the stream shows her bloodied and pleading, Eric settles onto his sofa, sends the kidnapper money and likes, and calmly refuses to pay.

Ivy's parents beg and rage, the police arrive urging him to agree to the kidnappers' demands, and Alan threatens to chop off one of Ivy's fingers every ten minutes. Eric insists his company is worth more than his wife's life, declaring he can always marry again but could never rebuild his fortune.

With the whole world watching and Alan raising a bloodied axe on the livestream, Eric must decide whether his empire is worth more than the woman carrying his child.

Opening excerpt

On Valentine’s Day, my enemy kidnapped my wife and brazenly started a livestream across the entire internet.

“Mr. Dawson, if you want your wife back, exchange her for shares of your company. Otherwise, I’ll kill her!”

The kidnapper’s tone over the phone was extremely arrogant.

I found a comfortable position on the sofa and spoke calmly. “Bro, do you know what the three greatest joys in a man’s life are?”
